General Election at Northern House School (7th May 2015)

On Thursday 7th May 2015,  after learning about democracy and the importance of the General Election, we held a General Election at Northern House School.  Pupils were eligible to vote for the Conservatives, Labour, the Liberal Democrats, the Green Party and the UK Independence Party (UKIP).  Votes were cast at lunch time and ballot papers put in a secure ballot box.  Mrs Jones and Kestrel class were the official Accounting and Returning Officers.

Our school results were:
  • The Conservatives                   30 votes
  • Labour                                           21 votes
  • Green Party                                 11 votes
  • UKIP                                                  9 votes
  • The Liberal Democrats             2 votes
Unfortunately 5 papers were judged by Kestrel class as spoilt due to them being filled in inaccurately.  It was only on Friday morning when the General Election results were in that our results echoed the national ones.  Perhaps we should ask the pupils to select lottery numbers every weekend!
